New historic tax credit legislation As previewed in our 9/11/2009 newsletter, the Community Restoration and Rehabilitation Act was introduced to both houses of Congress on October 1st. The bill would beneficially amend the Federal Rehab Tax Credit program already in place, which has generated over $50 billion in renovation and revitalization dollars since its inception in 1976. Among the proposed amendments are measures that would encourage energy efficiency, provide greater tax credits for "small projects" with $5 million or less in rehabilitation expenditures, and allow state tax credits to work more effectively with the federal credit.
