Their next meeting will be March 3 (location to be announced). ************************************************************************ Grant information According to a new HUD guide, historic preservation can stimulate tourism, economic development, and job growth. The guide aims to help state and local governments tap Community Development Block Grant funds for historic preservation. Governments can use CDBG funds for many preservation-related activities, such as preparing historic preservation plans, conducting feasibility studies, acquiring property, and rehabilitating or preserving historic buildings, the guide says. The guide also includes case studies from Florida, Ohio, and Texas. http://www.hud.gov/offices/cpd/communitydevelopment/library/historicpreservatio n/historicpreservation.pdf Historical Records Repositories and Local Governments may apply for cash grants to preserve and make accessible Georgia's historical records. Organizations that care for historical records and provide public access to those records on a regularly scheduled basis including Historical Records Repositories (historical society, library, museum, private university, or similar organization) and Local Governments (county, municipality, university archives and records management program, court system, board of education, or local authority) are eligible to apply. The amount of funding available for the grant program is $110,000. Grant applicants are expected to contribute a minimum match of 25% of the grant request. The match may be met through cash or in-kind contributions. Grant requests over $5,000 will require a portion of the match to be cash. In-kind contributions may include staff time, supplies, and other project related expenses. The application is a two-step process. Call 678-364-3718 to schedule the required site visit by Georgia Archives staff before June 1, 2005. ************************************************************************ New additions to the Preservation Events Calendar Check the Events Calendar at www.gashpo.org for complete listings by date.
