HPD reserves 10 percent of each year's appropriation for grants to Certified Local Governments (CLGs). The 60/40 matching grants enable cities, towns, and rural areas to undertake projects that aid in the preservation of historic properties. Betsy started off at HPD as archaeological reviewer for transportation projects and later became transportation projects coordinator. She is a former president of the Society for Georgia Archaeology, and was honored for her contributions to this organization during last year's Georgia Trust Annual meeting and Preservation Collaborative in Savannah. We are very pleased to have Betsy as our ER coordinator and welcome her to her new position. You may contact her at elizabeth_shirk@dnr.state.ga.us. ************************************************************************ Design Grants from the National Endowment for the Arts Innovation grants will be awarded for activities that are intended to advance, reform, or disseminate the latest techniques of design. Deadline: 3/14/2005 Stewardship projects protect, share, or celebrate our collective design heritage. Deadline: 8/15/2005 Rules for Applicants: 1.) All applications must come from tax-exempt 501 (c) 3 organizations. 2.) You may only apply for work that begins after the grant is received. 3.) Your application budget must indicate matching funds. 4.) Each organization may apply only once a year. 5.) The NEA cannot fund construction or land acquisition. Once you have a specific project in mind, you can discuss it with the design specialist Susan Begley at 202.682.5796. ************************************************************************ Scholarship Funding for Stewardship Training in Historic Preservation The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) has given a grant to the National Preservation Institute (NPI) that allows the NPI to offer scholarships to cultural resources and historic property managers and volunteers who might not otherwise have the means to attend an NPI-sponsored seminar. These volumes will identify and explain how architectural styles influenced and were influenced by the political, economic, and cultural events of their times. An ideal author will write on the colonial, federal and "mid-1800s" volumes. Authors should have a masters or Ph.D. in appropriate area and have some publication experience.
