The Georgia Alliance of Preservation Commissions (GAPC) is a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to local historic preservation commissions and design review issues for local governments. The GAPC sponsors training twice per year in the spring and fall, and a different Georgia community hosts each training. The host city locations change each time so that the training can be close to different commissions around the state. This fall, they are looking for a vital and energetic host city to hold the training in the northern portion of the state (approximately north of Macon). The statewide historic preservation commission training brings attention to local preservation efforts, generates sales for local businesses and provides a way to get YOUR local elected officials, city staff and preservation commissioners to training quickly and easily! Call for a "Host City Checklist" at 706-583-8047 or email Jennifer Martin Lewis at jmlewis@uga.edu. ************************************************************************ Invitation to Comment on Affordable Housing and Historic Preservation Ten years ago, the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) adopted its "Policy Statement on Affordable Housing and Historic Preservation." Since then the ACHP amended its regulations to enable Federal agencies and their grantees further flexibility in complying with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. Accordingly, a fresh look at the policy and how well it is working is needed. They would your views about the strengths and weaknesses of the Policy Statement. This assessment is being conducted online and may be accessed at: http://www.achp.gov/affhsng-form.html Along with the answers given by many other individuals, including federal agency field staff, local governments, state community development agency personnel, local housing providers, and historic preservation professionals, your responses will help guide improvements to the policy that may be needed. Candid responses and additional comments are welcome. Unless you choose otherwise, your responses will remain anonymous and confidential. The ACHP will accept responses until 5:00 PM (EDT) on Friday, September 19, 2005. Your participation and interest is appreciated. ************************************************************************ Rare opportunity to learn plaster conservation Dust will fly at Orange Hall, an antebellum mansion in St. Marys, when Heritage Conservation Network brings in lime plaster expert Jimmy Price to lead a handson plaster conservation workshop.
