The most recent designation event was held April 1, 2005, in Thomasville, Georgia, when ACHP Chairman John Nau presented a certificate to the city of Thomasville, during the Georgia Preservation Conference. The next quarterly deadline to apply for Preserve America Community designation is June 1, 2005. For more information on this program, the designation events, a list of Preserve America Communities, and an application form, visit http://www.PreserveAmerica.gov/communities.html. ************************************************************************ NTHP's new Rural Heritage Development Initiative The National Trust for Historic Preservation has recently announced the Rural Heritage Development Initiative, a project that will work with two rural pilot regions to implement preservation-based economic development strategies. The new initiative is funded in significant part through a $745,000 three-year grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. Proposals are being solicited from regions that have the capacity to work collaboratively to develop cultural and heritage assets for economic benefit. Lowery Blvd., Atlanta, Fulton County was listed on April 8, 2005. ************************************************************************ NTHP Diversity Scholarships The National Trust for Historic Preservation is accepting applications for Diversity Scholarships for the National Preservation Conference, which will be held in Portland, Oregon, September 27-October 2, 2005. The application deadline is June 1, 2005. The purpose of the Diversity Scholarship Program is to increase the diversity of participants at the National Preservation Conference and in the preservation movement.
