Ebony White, preservation planner at the Middle Flint RDC, has recently accepted a job with the Savannah Development and Renewal Authority. Ebony has served the Middle Flint Region for about 3 years. She will be missed, but we wish her the best of luck in Savannah. The Middle Flint Regional Development Center (RDC) is seeking an individual qualified to assume the responsibilities of regional Historic Preservation Planner. The successful applicant must have (a) a Master's degree in historic preservation or architectural history, or (b) a Master's degree in planning, history or a closely related field, with an educational emphasis on historic preservation, or (c) a Bachelor's degree in one of these fields plus two years of closely related historic preservation experience, and (d) strong community planning and communication skills, plus a thorough understanding of historic preservation. The planner must have good writing skills, be computer literate and possess the ability to manage publicly funded projects. Full-time position to remain open until filled. The RDC provides planning and development services to a population of 100,000 in 23 towns and cities located in eight west-central Georgia counties. Salary DOE, EOE. The Heritage Preservation Services, Technical Preservation Services, is working on the posting of information useful to preserving and rehabilitating historic buildings. Building Character is HGTV's first series exclusively devoted to homes converted from commercial structures. Building Character airs every Sunday night at 8:30 pm and again at 11:30 pm EST. The Northeast Office of the National Trust for Historic Preservation (NTHP), in partnership with Partners for Sacred Places, is compiling a series of success stories to showcase the reuse of historic religious buildings. They seek nationwide examples that show historically sensitive adaptations whether it be for conversion into cultural facilities, community centers, commercial space, residential usage or other. Ideally examples will be a combination of projects from diverse religious denominations; urban/rural locations; single buildings and complexes; for-profit and nonprofit; and projects which retained significant interior elements as part of the reuse. They are specifically interested in the process that occurred to save and reuse these oftenthreatened structures once closure is imminent. Seeking experienced cultural resources specialist to focus on historic buildings preservation, cultural resources impacts of proposed projects, and archaeological resources. Initial work to involve Cold War era historic building evaluation, planning and management. Will review and provide comments on various surveys, plans and reports such the as the historic buildings survey, draft integrated Cultural Resources Management Plan, historic buildings preservation plan, and any archaeological surveys and report for proposed undertakings. Review and comment on cultural resource sections of NEPA documents. Prepare standard operating procedures for cultural resources management related to installation operations.
