The intent of this legislation is to use the net proceeds of the sale of these license plates to fund historic preservation in the state through the Historic Preservation Division's Georgia Heritage Grant program. "The money is vitally needed since available funds have shrunk from $500,000 in sfy2002 to $129,000 in the proposed sfy2005 budget," HPD's director Ray Luce said. "We hope these funds will help support badly needed preservation projects until the economy improves." The bill passed the Senate on February 2, 2004 and was forwarded to the House and assigned to the House Motor Vehicles Committee. You can read the full text of SB407 at http://www.legis.state.ga.us/legis/2003_04/sum/sb407.htm SB 407 requires a pre-sale of 1,000 license plates (at $25 in addition to the basic license fee) before July 31, 2004 in order to commission the design and production of the plates. HPD is compiling a list of people interested in obtaining a plate. Send your name, phone number, email address, and mailing address to Vivian Pugh at vivian_pugh@dnr.state.ga.us. Because the construction of the new Atlanta Federal Center resulted in the demolition of portions of the historic Rich's store, the exhibit also evolved from a public interpretive component in an agreement between General Services Administration and HPD under the provisions of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. Students in the museum exhibits class spent fall semester working on every phase of planning, research, design, and fabrication for this professional display. The exhibit is in the windows of the former Rich's building at the corner of Alabama and Broad Streets adjacent to the Five Points Marta station on the south side. Congratulations students! ************************************************************************ Job and internship listings Emory University invites applications for the position of Research Services Archivist for the Special Collections and Archives Division of the General Libraries.
