This year marks the eleventh anniversary of an archaeology awareness promotion in Georgia. From its inception as a weeklong celebration in 1994, the observance has grown to an entire month of special public events, exhibits, and demonstrations in communities across the state. The theme for this year's observance is Georgia's Frontiers in the Soil! The Society for Georgia Archaeology serves as the primary sponsor of Georgia Archaeology Month. Co-sponsors include state agencies, private firms, and non-profit and professional organizations. An exciting development for this year is the production of a poster and accompanying lesson plan that highlights the recently reprinted classic, Frontiers in the Soil, The Archaeology of Georgia. A variety of educational programs and events will be offered during Archaeology Month. Visit the Society for Georgia Archaeology Web site at www.georgia-archaeology.org/sga for more information. ************************************************************************ May is also Historic Preservation Month!
