Written by Christine Van Voorhies, archaeology outreach specialist with HPD, Grave Intentions has an easy-to-read format with clear suggestions and sources of further information, making it invaluable to those interested in cemeteries including descendants, community members, developers and city or county authorities. HPD director Ray Luce expressed gratitude to the Historic Chattahoochee Commission (HCC) for cosponsoring the book's publication. It is available in paperback for $12.95 (ISBN: 0-945477-15-5) plus $4 for shipping and handling from the Historic Chattahoochee Commission, P. O. Box 33, Eufaula, AL 36072-0033 or phone 334-6879755. A project to document the lives and gravesite locations of Georgia's governors resulted in the Georgia Governors' Gravesites Field Guide, 1776-2003, another new publication from HPD. This guide contains biographical outlines and career highlights of Georgia's governors, as well as portraits and gravesite photos. Coordinated by HPD, the governors' gravesites project was researched and prepared by The Jaeger Company of Gainesville, Georgia. In addition to the field guide, the project produced a technical report assessing the physical condition of the gravesites with recommendations for their future conservation. Currently, Georgia Governors' Gravesites Field Guide, 1776-2003 is only available in electronic form at www.gashpo.org under the Publications section. HPD director Ray Luce said, "these books clearly illustrate the importance of the state's cemeteries and burial places and how we can work together to ensure that these vital resources are preserved and protected." ************************************************************************ ARCHAEOLOGICAL INVESTIGATIONS AT FORT MORRIS STATE HISTORIC SITE The Historic Preservation Division, Office of the State Archaeologist is proud to present Archaeological Investigations at Fort Morris State Historic Site, Liberty County, Georgia, a technical report by Southern Research, Historic Preservation Consultants, Inc., Columbus, Georgia. A variety of field techniques, including ground penetrating radar, soils analysis, and standard excavation procedures, resulted in the discovery of rich Revolutionary War deposits that are unmatched anywhere in Georgia, and solved several mysteries surrounding the site. The technical report is accompanied by Fort Morris Discovery: An Educational & Archaeological Odyssey for 4th Graders, a classroom activities packet that highlights key findings of the research. Both are available on HPD's Web site at www.gashpo.org. Click on Services and Programs, then Archaeology Protection and Education, then scroll down to the Publications section.
