Welcome, Nicole! ************************************************************************ RECENT PAST ISSUES ADDRESSED IN POSTWAR HOUSING REPORT The Historic Preservation Division (HPD) is pleased to present Atlanta Housing 1944 to 1965. This unique report was prepared by graduate students in the Heritage Preservation Program at Georgia State University during the spring of 2001. It represents one of the first concerted efforts to document and analyze mid-20th-century housing in Georgia. Although this report does not represent official HPD policy or position at this time, it does present useful and provocative information about mid-20th-century housing that is of value not only to Atlanta, but throughout the state of Georgia. It is our hope that this report will be of use to individuals, organizations, and government agencies dealing with not only the study but also the preservation of mid-20th-century houses in Atlanta and Georgia. The entire report is available on HPD's Web site at www.gashpo.org under publications. ************************************************************************ NATIONAL REGISTER NEWS Evergreen Congregational Church and School, 497 Meridian Rd., Beachton, Grady County was listed on October 31, 2002. Hillman--Bowden House, 1348 Pyland Crossing Rd., Thomson vicinity, McDuffie County was listed on November 1, 2002. ************************************************************************ DNR'S PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT TASK FORCE DRAFT RECOMMENDATIONS On behalf of the Board and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Commissioner Lonice Barrett convened a Public Involvement Task Force in September 2001. Its charge was to develop recommendations to the Board of Natural Resources for department-wide policies, processes, and procedures regarding public participation. The Task Force subsequently drafted recommendations for five specific areas where improved public participation policies, processes, and procedures are most clearly needed or most likely to be useful: public meetings and hearings; access to documents; rule making; permitting; and development of new policies. The Task Force's draft recommendations are posted for review and comment on the Environmental Protection Division's Web site at www.dnr.state.ga.us/environ (click on "outreach" and then under "public involvement"). Comments may be sent by e-mail to PITF@dnr.state.ga.us; by fax to the Public Involvement Task Force at 404-651-5778; or by mail to the Public Involvement Task Force, Georgia Environmental Protection Division, Suite 1152 East Tower, 2 Martin Luther King Drive, Atlanta, Georgia 30334. The public comment period will close December 15, 2002. Following the public comment period, the Task Force will meet to review comments and finalize recommendations. Final recommendations will then be presented to the Board of Natural Resources. ************************************************************************ ADVANCED PRESERVATION LEADERSHIP TRAINING ON JEKYLL ISLAND PLT/Advanced in Real Estate, Design & Advocacy is intended to increase the capacity of grassroots preservationists for direct involvement with historic properties and to empower grassroots organizations to achieve success in their communities.
