Preservationists are urged to attend the hearing and testify about their concerns for preservation and share information about their preservation projects with the Commission. Commission Chair Ed Jackson requests that individuals contact him in advance if they wish to speak and that they keep their remarks to five minutes. Find out about their latest projects including the restoration of the Powers Family Cabin (circa 1843) and its dedication ceremony on September 22, 2002. ************************************************************************ THE GEORGIA TRUST SEEKS PRESERVATION AWARDS NOMINATIONS The Georgia Trust is now accepting nominations for the 2003 Annual Preservation Awards, which recognize significant contributions to the preservation of Georgia's historic resources. The awards are open to projects completed within the last three years and will be given in the categories of Restoration, Rehabilitation, Stewardship, and Preservation Service. Nomination forms can be downloaded from The Georgia Trust's Web site at www.georgiatrust.org. ************************************************************************ FARM BILL INFORMATION CENTER ONLINE This year, Congress approved a massive farm bill that included two provisions that will assist preservation activities in agricultural areas. These include the expansion of the Farmland Protection Program's criteria to allow archeological and cultural sites to qualify. Information about this incentive is now available through a new Web page devoted to the farm bill created by the National Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) at the Department of Agriculture. The page contains a variety of information about the bill, including: program manuals and public notices for the Farmland Protection Program (FPP), the Conservation of Private Grazing Land Program and other programs under the bill, as well as fact sheets, key points, Q&As, and links other useful Farm Bill resources. www.nrcs.usda.gov ************************************************************************ VERNACULAR ARCHITECTURE FORUM CALL FOR PAPERS The Vernacular Architecture Forum is soliciting proposals from academics, consultants, and other scholars for presentations at its Annual Meeting to be held in St-Pierre et Miquelon, a French Collective Territory off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada, June 5 through 8, 2003. Papers may address any aspect of vernacular architecture in the United States, Canada, France, or elsewhere. They should be primarily analytical rather than descriptive. The selection committee especially welcomes proposals investigating the maritime and provincial architecture of French and British North America. Proposals must be postmarked by September 16, 2002.
