Region I- Calhoun (Northwest) BARTOW COUNTY On Saturday, December 29 RFC Byron Young was on routine patrol in Bartow County off Mount Pleasant Road. He located a vehicle parked near a historical house and property known as the Cora Harris Home. In the back of the vehicle was an opened beer and hunting equipment in plain view on the seat of the vehicle. RFC Young first located an individual with an open container of beer hunting deer. The person did not have a hunting license or big game license. RFC Young checked the individual for the level of intoxication and the person was found to be just under the legal limit to be charged with hunting under the influence. RFC Young then located a second hunter who was also hunting deer with no hunting license or big game license. Citations were issued to both parties. On Saturday, December 29 RFC Byron Young was on patrol in Bartow County off Nalley Road. RFC Young located a truck with a tag from Cobb County stopped at a bridge along side a creek. As RFC Young approached the vehicle, he saw two ears and a tail from a whitetail deer in the bed of the truck. RFC Young then saw a whitetail doe deer that had been dumped in the creek that had its ears and tail removed. The two vehicle occupants admitted to dumping the deer into the creek. The deer had been shot. RFC Young checked the vehicle and found an open container of beer, two shotguns, and two spotlights. RFC Young contacted Sgt. Mike Barr to assist. The two men were interviewed and stated they had killed the deer the night before while camping on family property off Ringer Road. The young men stated the deer had run into camp and they shot the deer in self-defense. RFC Young and Sgt. Barr went back to the location of the incident with the two men. RFC Young and Sgt. Barr located spent slug and buckshot hulls in the middle of a large hay field and a place where a deer had been shot. The two admitted to spotlighting deer on foot and killing the doe around 10:00 PM the night before. They also admitted to shooting non-game birds, hunting without a license, blinding wildlife with lights, dumping, wanton waste of wildlife, consumption of alcohol by an underage person, and hunting deer at night. It was also found that the deer was killed in a pile of corn. The father was charged with hunting without permission, hunting over bait, possession of illegally taken wildlife and failure to record deer harvest. Further investigation determined that the third subject had put the bait out and he was charged with placing bait where others are hunting. On Wednesday, January 2 Sgt. Danny Crook and Cpl. He then touched the trigger causing the firearm to discharge. The father transported the subject to Tanner Medical in Carrollton Georgia. The subject had sustained injury to the three middle toes on the right foot. COBB COUNTY On December 19, Sgt. Mike Barr and RFC Bart Hendrix assisted the U. S. Other skulls obtained were from different species of bears, tigers, wildcats, and other species protected under the International Cites Act. Many of the skulls were obtained from sales on E-Bay. The U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service is the lead agency on the case and continues the investigation. On November 11, Sgt. The truck's tag number was obtained and the owner of the vehicle was contacted. He was interviewed and denied hunting at McEver Park or the immediate area. The individual questioned had been charged at the same location with hunting violations before. A foot patrol by DNR Rangers revealed a hidden bow, chair, deer grunt call, and hunting head-net with hair inside that could be used to obtain a DNA sample.
