Lawmakers will be in recess Wednesday the 19th, Thursday the 20th , Friday the 21st , Monday the 24th and Tuesday the 25th allowing budget writers to work on the state spending plan for 2004 that begins July 1st. The House will reconvene Wednesday the 26th at 1:00 pm. Tuesday was the 19th day of the 40 day session. Private Docks - On Monday the House passed HB 178 by a vote of 162 - 0. Under the bill, owners of residential lots along coastal waterways could build a private dock, even if they don't plan to build a home on the property. However, the docks could only be built on lots with at least 50 feet of waterside frontage. The Coastal Marshlands Protection Act, which is current law, requires a home be on the lot before a property owner can build a dock. House Committee Renaming - HR 173 passed on Tuesday 168 - 0. The measure changes the names of two standing House committees. The Health and Ecology Committee will now be the Health and Human Services Committee and the Regulated Beverages Committee will become the Regulated Industries Committee. Anatomical Gifts Advisory Board - HB 53 passed on Tuesday 166 - 2. The legislation places one person who has actually received an organ transplant onto the Anatomical Gifts Advisory Board. The sixteen member volunteer board advises and consults with the Department of Human Resources in the regulation, promotion, and implementation of organ donation, and storage programs. Other Legislation Passed this Week Monday, February 17, 2003 - Day 18 of the Session HB 56, A bill to amend Chapter 44 of Title 31 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to renal disease facilities, so as to provide for the Georgia Association of Kidney Patients to recommend one member of the Renal Dialysis Advisory Council; passed 163 - 4. HB 189, A bill to amend Code Section 48-8-39 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to the effect of use other than retention, demonstration, or display by the giver of certain certification or by processor, manufacturer, or converter of tangible personal property, so as to provide for fair market value of certain carpet samples for sales and use tax purposes; passed 166 - 0. HR 25, A resolution commending Robert Henry Jordan; designating the Robert Henry Jordan Memorial Highway; passed 159 - 0. Tuesday, February 18, 2003 - Day 19 of the Session HB 263, A bill to amend Chapter 9 of Title 32 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to mass transportation, so as to change the provisions relating to the Department of Transportation's participation with state funds in mass transportation systems and services and in the construction and improvement of facilities, equipment, and capital projects for use in mass transportation service; passed 161 - 10.
