The purpose of the bill is to prevent ingestion by animals and people, which can result in injuries and deaths from poisoning. A chemical commonly found in antifreeze is toxic, and antifreeze has a sweet smell and taste. The bittering additive, denatonium benzoate, makes antifreeze unpalatable to both humans and animals. This same chemical is commonly added by manufacturers of household products to prevent ingestion. The bill includes limitation of liability for individuals or entities that sell or manufacture antifreeze, but include the additive as required by law. The bill gives a two year grace period, allowing manufacturers and retailers until July 1, 2011 to become compliant. - Authored By: Rep. Tommy Benton of the 31st - Committee Action: Do Pass by Committee Substitute Judiciary Non-Civil HB 392 - Plea discussions; guilty or nolo contendere; certain requirements; provisions - BILL SUMMARY: This bill allows the state to withdraw from a negotiated plea when the court rejects it. Under current law, only the defendant may withdraw from a negotiated plea. Passage of this bill would bring equity to both the state and the defendant by allowing either or both to withdraw from a negotiated plea that is rejected by the trial court. - Authored By: Rep. Kevin Levitas of the 82nd - Committee Action: Do Pass by Committee Substitute Judiciary Non-Civil HB 859 - Probationer duties; tolling of probated sentences; clarify provisions - BILL SUMMARY: This bill allows for the tolling of probated sentences for probationers who are not able to be found or are not responsive to the orders of the court. Existing tolling statutes require that abscondment be proven as a prerequisite of a tolling order. - Authored By: Rep. Rich Golick of the 34th - Committee Action: Do Pass by Committee Substitute * Bills passing committees are reported to the Clerk's Office, and are then placed on the General Calendar. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ COMMITTEE BROADCAST SCHEDULE 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM Tuesday, January 26, 2010 Appropriations Public Safety Subcommittee RETIREMENT JOINT ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT MOTOR VEHICLES JUDICIARY CIVIL WAYS & MEANS TRANSPORTATION Appropriations Health Subcommittee Appropriations Economic Development Subcommittee 415 CLOB 403 CAP 341 CAP 515 CLOB 132 CAP 606 CLOB 406 CLOB 506 CLOB 403 CAP * This broadcast schedule is up to date at the time of this report, but meetings dates and times are subject to change.
