Appointed by Speaker Coleman to the study committee are Rep. Nan Orrock, D-Atlanta; Rep. Paul Smith, D-Rome; and Rep. Keith Heard, D-Athens. Senate Resolution 234, which won House approval during the 2003 Legislative Session, calls for the study. According to the legislation, "There is a need to review (unemployment insurance statutes) to determine whether any reform, revision, or modernization of such laws is necessary and appropriate under current economic conditions so as to improve the accessibility and effectiveness of this state's unemployment insurance program." The 13 member panel will report back to the General Assembly when the legislature next convenes. ***
