Report for Tuesday, January 10, 2006 The second day of the 2006 legislative session was called to order by Lieutenant Governor Mark Taylor. Sen. Don Balfour of the 9th stated that the journal had been read and was found to be correct. Senate Bills 372, 373, 376, 377, 387-397, and Senate Resolutions 639, 642, 649, 652 and 655 were then read for the first time and assigned to committees. The Secretary then read the reports of standing committees. Following the morning roll call, Majority Leader Tommie Williams of the 19th led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance, and introduced the Chaplain of the Day, Pastor Roger Wilkins of Gum Ranch Baptist Church in Hinesville, who led the Senate in the daily devotional. There were no unanimous consents. Sen. Don Thomas of the 54th took the well on a point of personal privilege to invite Senators to receive flu shots available at the Capitol. SR 660, a resolution commending law enforcement officers involved in the pursuit and apprehension of an armed robbery suspect in South Georgia on June 3, 2005, was read and adopted. Sens. Joseph Carter of the 13th, Greg Goggans of the 7th, Brian Kemp of the 46th and several members of the House of Representatives took the rostrum to commend the law enforcement officers and to present the resolution to them. SR 661, a resolution declaring Tuesday, January 10, 2006, as Sportsman Day at the State Capitol, was read and adopted. Sens. Jeff Mullis of the 53rd and George Hooks of the 14th took the rostrum to invite all Senators to enjoy the Sportsman Day luncheon.
