Employment in the government sector rose by 2,200 nonfarm workers in June, this sector has expanded every month thus far in 2022. Manufacturing shed the most jobs over the month. The 3.9% 3.7% 3.5% 3.4% 3.3% 3.3% 3.2% 3.2% 3.1% 3.1% 3.0% 2.9% 2.8% loss of 700 jobs in July come after a gain of 2,700 in June. Professional and business services decreased by 600 nonfarm workers over the month, marking the first decrease in this sector since August 2021. The other services sector shrank by 500 in July. Trade, transportation, and utilities (+55,000 jobs), professional and business services (+46,500 jobs), leisure and hospitality (+37,600 jobs), education and health services (+23,600 jobs) and manufacturing (+17,000 jobs) added the most jobs over the year. In July 2022, Georgia's unemployment rate (seasonally adjusted) declined to 2.8 percent over the month, reaching the lowest rate in Georgia's history. The state's unemployment rate remains well below the 3.6 percent national average. Over the year, Georgia's rate is down from 3.9 percent in June 2021.
