Georgia Unemployment Rate

3,300 jobs over the month. The increase was largely

(Seasonally Adjusted)

concentrated in educational services where 3,100 new

positions were added while 200 new jobs were in health

care and social assistance. Employment in professional

and business services rose by 1,700 nonfarm workers in

May and has now grown for nine consecutive months.

Mining and logging shed 100 jobs in May, marking the

first month the sector experienced a loss since August

2021. The other services sector (which includes auto

repair, personal care services, and religious organiza-

tions, etc.) also contracted by 100 jobs over the month,

ending a four-month long growth streak.

From May 2021 to May 2022, employment in Georgia is up 244,100, or 5.4 percent. Professional and business services (+57,700 jobs), trade, transportation, and utilities (+55,800 jobs), leisure and hospitality (+46,400 jobs), education and health services (+27,200 jobs) and manufacturing (+19,900 jobs) added the most jobs over the year.
In May 2022, Georgia's unemployment rate (seasonally adjusted) declined to 3.0 percent over the month. Georgia's unemployment rate remains well below the 3.6 percent national average. Over the year, the state's rate is down from 4.1 percent in May 2021.
