This sector's over the month rise in employ- Charlton Camden Georgia Unemployment Rate (Seasonally Adjusted) ment was concentrated in finance and insurance where the addition of 1,500 positions overshadowed the loss of 100 workers in real estate and rental leasing. Manufacturing shed 3,100 jobs in October following a gain of 2,600 in September. Employment fell by 700 in trade, transportation and utilities over the month as a decrease of 1,400 wholesale trade jobs outweighed the growth of 200 jobs in retail trade and 500 jobs in transportation, warehousing, and utilities. The information sector also contracted over the month, losing 600 nonfarm workers in October. Over the year, employment in Georgia is up 204,500, or 4.4 percent. Professional and business services (+44,700 jobs), trade, transportation and utilities (+39,600 jobs), leisure and hospitality (+36,900 jobs), education and health services (+25,300 jobs) and government (+17,700 jobs) added the most jobs from October 2021 to October 2022. In October 2022, Georgia's unemployment rate (seasonally adjusted) increased to 2.9 percent over the month. Although Georgia's unemployment rate remains well below the 3.7 national average, this is the first unemployment rate increase since April 2020.
