Georgia Department of Labor schedules veterans job fair in Athens 
ATLANTA  State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond said today that the Georgia Department of Labor's Athens Career Center and several local veterans' organizations will sponsor a job fair for veterans, personnel recently separated from active duty, and other job seekers in the area. 
The job fair will be held Wednesday, Aug. 15, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 2872, located at 835 Sunset Dr. in Athens. Other event sponsors include the Athens-Clarke County Veterans Council and the Ladies Auxiliary. 
Commissioner Thurmond said, "This job fair is designed to bring employers and organizations in the Athens area together with veterans and other job seekers who are looking for employment or career guidance. Job seekers will receive cutting edge information on job search, career planning, and other valuable services to help them reach their full workplace potential." 
The event will feature about 50 employers that will be hiring to fill current job openings. In addition, other employers will be discussing possible future employment opportunities with the job seekers, while other organizations will be providing educational and other resources. Applicants should bring plenty of resumes and be prepared to fill out company applications and interview for available job openings. 
Among the employers expected to participate in the event include: Athens-Clarke County Police Department, Sheriff's Office, and Unified Government, Advantage Behavioral Health Systems, Bently Assisted Living, Blanchard Personnel, Care Master Medical, Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, Cobb County Police Department and Public Services, Flexstaff Services, Georgia National Guard, Gibson Agency, Haband, Hancock Community Development Corporation, Hire Dynamics, Home Instead Healthcare, Huber Engineered Woods, Labor Finders, Lee Arrendale State Prison, Lear Siegler Services, Louisiana Pacific, Manpower, Motel Enterprises, Olympic Steel, Payne Construction, Pilgrim's Pride, Productiv Staffing Services, Randstad Staffing Services, RHE Tech Builders, Ritz Carlton Inn, Sizemore Total Contract Service, Southeast Toyota, TA Travel Centers, Waffle House, and WillStaff World Wide.
