FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Georgia's unemployment rate rises in April ATLANTA The Georgia Department of Labor reported today that the state's unemployment rate increased slightly to 4.1 percent in April, up one-tenth of one percent from 4.0 percent in March. The state's April rate was two-tenths of one percent lower than the U.S. unadjusted rate of 4.3 percent. While the state's rate was up slightly in April, it was down two-tenths of one percent over the year, from 4.3 percent in April of 2006. From March to April of 2007, Georgia added 28,300 payroll jobs, primarily in trade and the service-related industries. The 14 metro areas of the state and their job changes include: Albany, up 600, or nine-tenths of one percent, from 65,000 to 65,600. Athens, up 800, or 1.0 percent, from 81,700 to 82,500. Atlanta, up 13,100, or one-half of one percent, from 2,419,500 to 2,432,600. Augusta, up 1,700, or eight-tenths of one percent, from 216,600 to 218,300. Brunswick, up 500, or 1.1 percent, from 45,900 to 46,400. Columbus, down 100, or one-tenth of one percent, from 123,000 to 122,900. Dalton, up 1,100, or 1.4 percent, from 79,300 to 80,400. Gainesville, up 700, or nine-tenths of one percent, from 73,900 to 74,600. Hinesville, up 200, or 1.1 percent, from 18,400 to 18,600. Macon, up 1,400, or 1.4 percent, from 100,600 to 102,000. Rome, up 200, or four-tenths of one percent, from 45,000 to 45,200. Savannah, up 1,100, or seven-tenths of one percent, from 158,400 to 159,500. Valdosta, up 500, or nine-tenths of one percent, from 56,200 to 56,700. Warner Robins, up 200, or four-tenths of one percent, from 57,100 to 57,300.
