FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Georgia Department of Labor schedules career fair in Americus ATLANTA State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond said today that the Georgia Department of Labor's Americus Career Center and several other local organizations will sponsor a career fair for employers and job seekers in the area. The career fair will be held Thursday, Nov. 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon in the John Pope Technology Center, located on the campus of South Georgia Technical College, 900 South Georgia Tech Parkway, in Americus. Other sponsors of the career fair include: the Americus Employer Committee, South Georgia Technical College, the Sumter Chamber of Commerce, and the Payroll Development Authority of Sumter County. Prior to the career fair, workshops on effective job search, interviewing, and resume writing will be conducted at the career center on Friday, Nov. 2, from 9-10 a.m. Commissioner Thurmond said, "This career fair is designed to bring employers and organizations in the Americus area together with job seekers who are looking for employment or career guidance. Job seekers will receive cutting edge information on job search, career planning, and other valuable services to help them reach their full workplace potential." The event will feature about 40 employers that will be hiring to fill current job openings. In addition, other employers will be discussing possible future employment opportunities with the job seekers, while other organizations will be providing educational and other resources. Applicants should bring plenty of resumes and be prepared to fill out company applications and interview for available job openings. Among the employers expected to participate in the event include: Carabella, a division of Spiegel Brands, Coates and Clark, Lillian Carter Nursing Center, Macon State Prison, The Staffing People, Timco Aviation, Tolleson Lumber Company, and Woodmen of the World.
