LABOR COMMISSIONER THURMOND TO SPEAK IN MILLEN TODAY AND VISIT JOCKEY PLANT 
ATLANTA  State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond will speak to the Millen Rotary Club today, Wednesday, Aug. 23, at 12-noon. The club meets at the Millen Community House on Cleveland Ave. in Millen. 
Following his speech, Thurmond will visit the Jockey International knit underwear plant at 1557 Highway 25 North in Millen, where a substantial number of layoffs are set to begin next month. The Georgia Department of Labor has established a resource center at the plant to assist the more than 200 employees expected to lose their jobs. The company has notified the labor department that the layoffs would take place in September and November. 
Commissioner Thurmond will be available for interviews while in Millen.
