LABOR DEPARTMENT'S VALDOSTA OFFICE EXPANDS ITS HOURS OF OPERATION TO BETTER SERVE EMPLOYERS AND JOB SEEKERS 
 
ATLANTA -- State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond said today that the Georgia Department of Labor's Valdosta office has expanded its hours of operation to better serve employers and job-seekers alike. The office serves the residents of Brooks, Cook, Echols, Lanier and Lowndes counties. 
 
The office at 2808 North Oak St. is now open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Fridays. The new office hours began Feb. 28, and replace the long-standing schedule of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. 
 
"We're able to expand our office hours without additional staff, overtime, or employee workload by using flex-time schedules," said Susan Dukes, manager of the Valdosta office. 
 
The extended hours will allow customers, especially those whose work schedules correspond with the office's normal operating schedule, more opportunities to use the department services. 
 
"We have to base our decisions about office hours on what's best for our customers," said Francis Mangham, assistant commissioner of field services. 
 
The Valdosta office is a one-stop office that provides resources for youth, seniors, and people receiving public assistance or rehabilitation services. It also provides on-the-job training programs, veterans services, and the federal bonding program.
