Georgia Department of Labor - Press Release Georgia Department of Labor Suite 642 148 International Boulevard N.E. Atlanta, Georgia 30303-1751 (404)656-3032 January 3, 2000 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE LABOR DEPARTMENT'S THOMASVILLE AND CAIRO OFFICES TO EXPAND HOURS OF OPERATION ATLANTA -- State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond said today that the Georgia Department of Labor's Thomasville and Cairo offices will expand their hours of operation to better serve employers and job seekers in the area. The offices will be open every Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon, beginning Jan. 15. The longstanding schedule of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, will continue. The Thomasville office is located at 2551 East Pinetree Blvd. in Thomasville, while the Cairo office is located at 101 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. in Cairo. "We're able to expand our office hours without additional staff, overtime or employee workload by using flex-time schedules," said Joseph Ferrell, manager of both offices. The extended hours will allow customers, especially those whose work schedules correspond with the offices' normal operating schedule, more opportunities to use the department's services. The offices are regional one-stop offices that provide resources for youth, seniors and people receiving public assistance or rehabilitation services. They also provide on-the-job training programs, veterans services and the federal bonding program. The offices provide resource centers that offer resume preparation, career information, employment workshops, labor market information, job listings, and job referrals.
