JOB FAIR FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES SET FOR OCT. 21 IN MARIETTA 
 
ATLANTA -- State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond said today that the Georgia Department of Labor will sponsor a job fair for people with disabilities next week in Cobb County. 
 
The job fair is part of the labor department's statewide focus on bringing more people with disabilities into the work force. October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, and the theme for the month is "Think Ability." Other labor department offices throughout the state are also focusing on matching people with disabilities with available jobs. 
 
"Employers who actively recruit qualified employees with disabilities often discover untapped education, training, skills and other talents," Thurmond said. "In addition, people with disabilities rank high in the critical areas of loyalty and dependability. In short, they make excellent workers who give their employers a competitive edge in today's market place." 
 
The job fair is set for Thursday, Oct. 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the labor department's CobbCherokee office at 465 Big Shanty Road in Marietta. It is expected to draw about 35 well-known employers, such as AT&T Tridon, Brinks Security, Cobb EMC, Goodwill Industries, Mayfield Dairies, Steak & Shake, City of Kennesaw, Federal Express, Fulton County government, Georgia Department of Transportation, Hyatt Corp. hotels and motels, MCI and UPS.
