Georgia Department of Labor Suite 642 148 International Boulevard N.E. Atlanta, Georgia 30303-1751 (404)656-3032 May 28, 1998 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MCINTOSH TRAIL'S JOBLESS RATE DECLINES TO 3.6 PERCENT IN APRIL ATLANTA -- State Labor Commissioner Marti Fullerton said today that the unemployment rate in the McIntosh Trail region declined to 3.6 percent in April, down from 4.0 percent in March. The area's jobless rate was 4.8 percent in April 1997. "The unemployment rate in the McIntosh Trail area declined, as about 400 residents of the area who did not have jobs in March found work in April," said Fullerton. "The area has experienced good job growth during the past year and that has lowered the unemployment rate." In April, the region's civilian labor force, which is the number of people working plus those unemployed but actively looking for a job, totaled 65,377. Of that number, 63,037 had jobs and 2,340 did not. In April 1997, the area's work force totaled 64,296. Of that number, 61,237 were employed and 3,059 were unemployed. Georgia's unemployment rate declined to 3.5 percent in April, its lowest point in 25 years. The jobless rate was down from 4.0 percent in March and 4.3 percent in April 1997.
