Atlanta, Georgia 30303-1751 (404)656-3032 April 24, 1998 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE COGGINS NAMED DIRECTOR OF FACILITIES MANAGEMENT DIVISION AT GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF LABOR ATLANTA -- State Labor Commissioner Marti Fullerton has named James Wesley Coggins of College Park director of the Georgia Department of Labor's facilities management division. He is responsible for maintenance and service contracts for the department's 53 offices statewide and the central office in Atlanta. "James has been with the department for 12 years, and has done an outstanding job on the various assignments that he has been given," Fullerton said. "I'm sure he will continue to do his usually fine job as our director of facilities management." A native Atlantan, Coggins, 43, is a graduate of the city's Henry Grady High School, and received a national merit scholarship in 1973 to attend Morehouse College. In 1977, he graduated with honors from that institution at the Atlanta University Center with a bachelor of arts degree in American history. Recently, he completed a graduate secondary education program at Mercer University in Atlanta, which certified him to teach social studies at the high school level. Coggins was employed in the private sector for six years before joining the Secretary of State's Archives and History Division in 1983 as an assistant archivist. He joined the labor department in 1986 and worked at the Atlanta employment service office for five years before being promoted to an operations analyst position in the central office's internal security unit. In 1992, he was named assistant director of facilities, a post he held until his recent promotion. He is a member of the Georgia Association of State Facilities Administrators and the National Association of State Facilities Administrators. Coggins is married to the former Elaine Owens of Atlanta, a senior labor market specialist with the department. The couple has two sons: David, 17, a junior at Westlake High School, and Wesley, 13, a student at McNair Middle School in College Park, where they have lived for the past 11 years.
