DHR extends energy program through April 
 
The Georgia Department of Human Resources is extending its application period for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) to allow as many eligible people as possible to obtain financial assistance with their heating bills. The closing date has been changed from March 15 to April 27, 2001. 
"Natural gas and heating oil prices were higher this year and this was a colder winter, so more people than usual need help with paying their heating bills," says Joyce Hull, unit chief of the Division of Family and Children Services' Community Services Section. "Fortunately, Georgia received more LIHEAP funds than in recent years." 
Applications are being accepted at local Community Action Agencies throughout the state. For more information or to find out where to apply, please call 404-657-3426 locally or 1-800-869-1150 outside the Atlanta area.
