Mayor Reed launches Holocaust learning trunk in Atlanta Starting this fall, the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust and the Georgia Department of Education will be launching a minimum of 20 learning trunks as part of the statewide Holocaust Learning Trunk Project. The first trunk was launched by Mayor Kasim Reed at Jean Child Young Middle School in Atlanta on November 29th, 2012. The school was chosen by Mayor Reed and special guests included Senator Horacena Tate, Opher Aviran, Israeli Consul General to the Southeast, and Bill Nigut, Southeast Regional Director of the Anti-Defamation League. Holocaust survivor, Dr. Eugen Schoenfeld, spoke to the students about his experiences as a prisoner at Auschwitz. Read more... Save the Date: April 12, 2013 State Official Days of Remembrance By law, the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust is charged with holding an annual remembrance observance for the victims of the Holocaust. Tuskegee Exhibit in Sandy Springs The story of the celebrated Tuskegee Airmen -- the first African-American pilots to fly in combat during World War II -- is told in an exhibit that opens Tuesday, October 6 at the Anne Frank in the World exhibit in Sandy Springs. The exhibition, titled "The Tuskegee Airmen: The Segregated Skies of World War II," depicts the history and heroism of the airmen who began training in a segregated program at Tuskegee Army Air Field in 1941. The exhibit is on loan from Kennesaw State University and will be on view until December 20th, 2012. For more information please click here. For exhibit hours and directions click here. Sunday, December 16th, come to the Anne Frank in the World exhibit for a free double feature from the film collection produced by the Jewish Partisan Educational Foundation: "Women in the Partisans" and "AntiSemitism in the Partisans." 2013 Student Art, Writing, and Music Contest The guidelines are up! All middle and high school students throughout Georgia are invited enter the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust's annual Art, Writing & Music Contest for 2013.
