GCA FY17 Impact Map GCA Releases New FY17 Impact Map Partner and Project Grant applications are due on February 13, 2018. Arts Education Program Grant applications are due on March 6, 2018. GCA recently hosted online training workshops for all three grant programs. Recordings of the workshops are available on the GCA website. Also, please remember that GCA is using for the first year a new online grant application system, Foundant. Be sure to register for GCA eNews and follow GCA on Facebook to receive important updates and notifications about the grant funding process. GCA recently released our FY17 Impact Map. During FY17, GCA directly and indirectly delivered support to 128 of the state's 159 counties. A total of 4.4 million individual Georgians directly benefitted from the programs and services delivered by GCA grantees. The FY17 Impact Map publication identifies the location of GCA grants and programs in each county served, including grant recipients, grant recipient service areas, arts learning programs, literary arts programs, acknowledging artistic excellence & preserving cultural heritage, and GCA local consultations. The document also features GCA program descriptions and new grants survey data, including: 78% of grant recipients said they would have had to cut back on the scope of the project or programming if they had not received the grant. 88% of all grantees said they were able to leverage the GCA grant to help raise additional funds. Some of GCA's Teaching Artists in Action GCA Expands Teaching Artists Registry and Accepts New Artist Applications In an effort to provide up-to-date resources to schools and organizations, and to help promote the work of our state's best teaching artists, Georgia Council for the Arts recently expanded the Georgia Teaching Artists Registry. 96% of all grantees said that the grant helped them reach new audiences. 100% of all grantees said that other funders look more favorably on their organization because they are funded by GCA. Now including 49 qualified teaching artists from throughout Georgia, the registry features artists who have a combination of extensive training and experience in their artistic field, are prepared to work in schools and at organizations serving K-12 students around the state, and have passed a background check to work in a school environment. The expanded Georgia Teaching Artists Registry can be accessed through the GCA website. Artists representing a wide variety of disciplines, grade levels, and geographic regions are available for bookings by schools, districts, organizations, and communities. In addition, Georgia Council for the Arts will continue to update and expand the Teaching Artists Registry in 2018. Qualified teaching artists must be a resident of Georgia, must have a combination of training in their field and experience in educational settings, and must pass a background check. The Teaching Artists Registry application form is available online. The deadline to apply is April 27, 2018. Inspired Georgia, UGA Press Inspired Georgia Tour Concludes with Exhibit at Albany Museum of Art After successful exhibitions in Zebulon, Milledgeville, Rome, Vidalia, and Statesboro, GCA is pleased to announce that the "Inspired Georgia" photo exhibit will conclude its statewide tour with an exhibit at the Albany Museum of Art in Albany, GA, from February 8 through April 6, 2018. Albany will serve as a host for these remarkable images, along with literary events celebrating local poets. Program dates and details are available on the GCA website. "Inspired Georgia" was born from a collaboration between Georgia Council for the Arts, Georgia Poet Laureate Judson Mitcham, Atlanta Celebrates Photography (ACP), and UGA Press. The volume is a unique collection of Georgia's contemporary poets and photographers that engages the history and culture of the state. Proceeds from the sale of the book will fund future UGA Press and GCA copublications celebrating the arts in Georgia. Jazz 'N Art on the Riverwalk, Woodbine, GA GCA Announces Availability of Arts & Aging Resources Georgia Council for the Arts has created a web page highlighting Arts & Aging Resources in Georgia and at the national level. The purpose of the page is to help organizations throughout the state locate model programs and best practices for the arts and aging, and to help connect organizations and older adults through the arts. Resources from Georgia include videos of Arts & Aging Forums hosted by the Atlanta Regional Commission, articles about programs at Emory University and the Michael C. Carlos Museum, and masters thesis research by students at Savannah College of Art and Design. National resources are from National Endowment for the Arts, the National Center for Creative Aging, The Alzheimer's Poetry Project, and the National Guild for Community Arts Education, among many others. Samara Huggins, 2017 Georgia and National Poetry Out Loud Champ Georgia Holds Poetry Out Loud State Finals The Georgia Poetry Out Loud State Finals will be hosted by the Atlanta History Center on Sunday, March 11, 2018. The winner will represent Georgia at the national finals in Washington, D.C., April 23-25. Poetry Out Loud is a national program sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the Poetry Foundation which encourages high school students to learn about poetry through memorization and recitation of the written word. Georgia's Poetry Out Loud champion receives $200 from the NEA and their school will be presented with a $500 certificate for new books. The Poetry Out Loud runner-up will receive $100 from the NEA and $200 for new books for their school. 2017 Poet Laureate's Prize Ceremony at the State Capitol, Atlanta, GA Georgia Poet Laureate's Prize Call for Entries Georgia's Creative Economy Brochure GCA Offers a Variety of Resources Georgia's Poet Laureate, Judson Mitcham, in collaboration with GCA, is pleased to announce the fifth annual Poet Laureate's Prize, awarded for an original poem written by a Georgia high school student. Selected by the Poet Laureate, the winner and finalists will be announced in April 2018. The Prize ceremony takes place in May with Governor and Mrs. Deal and the Poet Laureate. The winning and finalist poems will be published at atlantamagazine.com. Entry details are included in the guidelines. The deadline for Poet Laureate's Prize entries is March 1, 2018. Georgia's Creative Economy Brochure Almost one year ago, GCA announced updated research which shows that the state's creative industries generate $62.5 billion in annual economic impact, represent a combined $37 billion in revenue, and employ an estimated 200,000 Georgians statewide, making up five percent of employment in the state. In support of the new economic impact figures, GCA released an updated digital brochure, titled Georgia's Creative Economy, which outlines information on the impact, institutions, and communities that fuel the creative industries in our state. Eligibility The Poet Laureate's Prize is open to all Georgia high school students, grades 9 through 12, currently enrolled in a Georgia public school, private school, or home school. Students who submit a poem must be a resident of the state of Georgia. Minors should have his/her parent's or legal guardian's permission to enter (see entry form for details). Entry Guidelines Only one poem per student will be accepted. Only original work will be considered and cannot contain previously published and/or copyrighted material in any part by any 3rd party. The poem may not be offensive or inappropriate. The poem may not be longer than 30 lines. Poems must be printed in an easy-to-read, non-italic, black font that is 12 points or larger. Entrants agree to share with Georgia Council for the Arts the rights to print and publish submitted poems. Entries from minors must be accompanied by a parent's or legal guardian's signature giving permission for entry. To be eligible, entries must be submitted with a complete entry form, including signatures. Submissions Poems must be submitted electronically as either a Microsoft Word or PDF file to PoetLaureate@gaarts.org. Arts Education Campaign Resources and Toolkit In mid-October, GCA launched an Arts Education Campaign, including a series of 16 slides highlighting the benefits of arts education paired with adoption tips outlining how local advocates can work to improve access to quality arts learning opportunities in their schools, districts, and communities. The slides, adoption tips, and a toolkit with additional resources are available on the GCA Arts Education Campaign web page. Case Studies on the Arts and Local Economic Development GCA, in partnership with the Georgia Municipal Association, released an industry impact report "Leveraging Public Investment in the Arts." This report contains a series of case studies and project studies that illuminate the positive impact of the arts as an economic development tool in Georgia's communities. Through these case studies, the report demonstrates the importance of the arts as a method to promote tourism, downtown development, business development, entrepreneurism, community identity, and quality of life. The report shares in-depth examples from Athens, Blue Ridge, Clarkston, Duluth, Hapeville, Springfield, and Thomasville. Arts & Aging Resources GCA recently added to our website Arts & Aging Resources to help connect organizations and older adults through the arts. GCA is seeking individuals interested in serving on Grant Review Panels in the coming months for Partner, Project, and Arts Education Program Grants. We seek to develop panels which are diverse based on geography, artistic discipline, and type of organization, among other factors. We especially have a need for panelists who live outside of the metro Atlanta area. The Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education recently unveiled a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) Asset Map www.gasteammap.org. This tool provides a visual depiction of where investments in STEM and STEAM education exist across Georgia. Shakespeare in American Communities exposes students at underserved middle and high schools to high-quality performances of Shakespeare's plays. Through this National Endowment for the Arts program, matching grants of $25,000 will support school productions and related educational activities. The application deadline is February 8, 2018. Creative placemaking speakers and presenters will turn their focus to small and rural communities in the American South during the Creative Placemaking Leadership Summit in Chattanooga, TN, on March 1516, 2018. Attendees will explore the possibilities of addressing through arts and culture challenges such as community wellness, diversity and inclusion, maintaining affordable places, and persistent poverty. Registration is now open. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged. More information on the conference is available on the Creative Placemaking Leadership Summit website. Georgia Museum of Art, Athens, GA GCA FY18 Partner, Project, Arts Education, and Vibrant Communities Grant Timelin e Recipients of Partner, Project, Arts Education, and Vibrant Communities grants are in the middle of their funded programs and seasons. As a reminder, we have put together a brief timeline for CRRs, payments, and final reports. Now-June 2018 - Partner, Project, and Arts Education grantees may submit CRR forms to request payment of the grant award up to 90%; Vibrant Communities grantees may submit CRR forms to request payment of the grant award up to 80%; Payment processing and delivery usually takes 4-6 weeks. June, July, and August 2018 Final reports and CRR forms for the final 10% of the grant award are due during these months; Vibrant Communities grant final reports are due 30 days after the end of the project, but no later than June 1; Project grant final reports are due 30 days after the end of the project, but no later than July 15; Arts Education grant final reports are due 30 days after the end of the project, but no later than July 31; Partner grant final reports are due by August 3. Also, GCA wants to remind all grantees to thank their state legislators for grant funds allocated for FY18. Without the commitment of the Governor and the General Assembly, these grants would not be possible. The application deadline to apply for a scholarship through South Arts has been extended through February 5, 2018. South Arts recently announced changes to their grant programs, which are outlined in detail in this video recording. The first funding opportunities to reflect the new strategic plan are the Performing Arts Touring and Literary Arts Touring grants. The application deadline for Performing Arts Touring grants is March 1, 2018, and for Literary Arts Touring grants is May 1, 2018. Visit the South Arts website for complete details. The NEA has made available guidelines and application materials for Art Works, the agency's largest funding category. These grants generally range from $10,000 to $100,000, and support artistically excellent projects that celebrate our creativity and cultural heritage, invite mutual respect for differing beliefs and values, and enrich humanity. Matching funding equal to the grant amount is required. Deadlines for the next two grant cycles are February 15, 2018, and July 12, 2018. The National Park Service, in partnership with the NEA, the NEH, and IMLS, recently announced the availability of $5 million in grants for Save America's Treasures. The Federal Save America's Treasures program began in 1999 and helps preserve nationally significant historic properties and collections that convey our nation's rich heritage to future generations of Americans. The application deadline is February 21, 2018. Guidelines and application materials for Challenge America grants are now available on the NEA's website. These $10,000 matching grants support projects that extend the reach of the arts to underserved populations. The application deadline is April 12, 2018. Add your arts events to ExploreGeorgia.org Promote Your Arts Organization and Events on ExploreGeorgia.org Georgia arts organizations can attract more visitors by posting information about their organizations on Georgia's official tourism website, exploregeorgia.org. The website reaches more than 4.5 million unique visitors, helping them plan their trips to Georgia. In addition, public relations staff for the state use exploregeorgia.org to search for information about sites and events that they can promote on the state's social media channels and to media across the country. All Georgia organizations are welcome to post information to the site about performances, festivals, exhibits, or other programs. Request your free account by visiting partner.exploregeorgia.org. The U.S. Department of Education has approved Georgia's State ESSA Plan, highlighting Georgia's progress with traditionally underserved subgroups and creating an accountability system that expands opportunities for students and supports the whole child. Presented by the Alliance Theatre and Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the conference for educators, administrators, and teaching artists will take place June 5-7, 2018. Over the course of three days, participants will explore world-class art and engage in workshops led by professional artists and educators in order to reflect upon this year's theme Igniting Imagination.
