A proclamation: Acoustic Neuroma Awareness Week [Apr. 13, 2016]

A PROCLAMATION
ACOUSTIC NEUROMA AWARENESS WEEK

WHEREAS: WHEREAS:

An acoustic neuroma is a rare, benign tumor of the hearing and balance nerves that affects more than three in 100,000 people; and
An acoustic neuroma may lead to single-sided deafness, hearing loss, tinnitus, balance issues, and facial paralysis; and

WHEREAS: WHEREAS: WHEREAS: THEREFORE:

Increased awareness of this tumor will promote research focused on the development of better therapies and earlier detection for those afflicted; and
Organizations like the Acoustic Neuroma Association (ANA) seek to inform, educate, and provide support networks for those affected by an acoustic neuroma. Additionally, ANA has become an essential resource for health care professionals who treat acoustic neuroma patients; and
Patients, caregivers, family members, and health care professionals will inform thousands of people about acoustic neuroma during Acoustic Neuroma Awareness Week; now
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim May 8-14, 2016 as ACOUSTIC NEUROMA AWARENESS WEEK in Georgia.
In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 13th day of April in the year of our Lord two thousand sixteen.
