BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA A PROCLAMATION CANCER SURVIVORS MONTH WHEREAS: WHEREAS: WHEREAS: WHEREAS: A "cancer survivor" is defined as anyone living with a history of cancer from the moment of diagnosis through the remainder of one's life; and In 201 5, an estimated 1.6 million and 48,070 cancer cases will be diagnosed in the United States and Georgia, respectively. These astonishing numbers are a testament to the need for increased access to quality cancer care, screening, and prevention in communities throughout our state; and Organizations in the state, such as the Georgia Center for Oncology Research and Education (CORE), are dedicated to increasing collaboration to offer higher quality, better organized, and more cost-effective cancer care in Georgia; and The great State of Georgia has over 356,000 active, productive cancer survivors. These individuals serve as an inspiration to their fellow citizens and a reminder of the need to continue to bring awareness to this epidemic; now THEREFORE: I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim june 201 5 as CANCER SURVIVORS MONTH in Georgia with june 7th as CANCER SURVIVORS DAY and encourage Georgians to salute all cancer survivors and those who support them.
