BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA A PROCLAMATION RECYCLING WORKS AWARENESS DAY WHEREAS: Waste and the improper disposal and management of resources affect Georgia's environment, economy, communities, and the health of its residents; and WHEREAS: Georgians recycle and compost roughly 1.51 pounds of individual waste per every 4.43 pounds of generated waste. Recycling and proper management of waste and resources have a positive impact on every stage of a consumer product's life cycle, from the raw material with which it is made to its final method of disposal; and WHEREAS: Sustainable recycling programs provide the raw materials that businesses require to expand and thrive. Recycling also saves energy, conserves water and other non-renewable natural resources, and reduces air and water pollution; and WHEREAS: The benefits of recycling extend to every community and connect neighbors as they endeavor to preserve Georgia's beautiful resources; now THEREFORE: I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim june 9, 201 5, as RECYCLING WORKS DAY in Georgia and encourage citizens to recycle, reuse, and restore our resources.
