BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA A PROCLAMATION PANCREATIC CANCER AWARENESS DAY WHEREAS: WHEREAS: WHEREAS: WHEREAS: WHEREAS: THEREFORE: In 201 5, an estimated 48,960 people will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the U.S., 40,560 will die from the disease, and approximately 1,040 of those deaths will occur in Georgia; and Pancreatic cancer, one of the deadliest cancers, is currently the fourth leading cause of cancer death in the U.S. and is projected to become the second by 2020. It is the only major cancer with a five year relative survival rate at seven percent; and 73 percent of pancreatic cancer patients die within the first year of their diagnosis while 93 percent of patients die within the first five years; and Pancreatic cancer is the seventh most common cause of cancer related death in men and women across the world; and The health and well-being of the citizens of Georgia are enhanced as a result of increased awareness of pancreatic cancer and research into early detection, causes, and effective treatments; now I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim November 1 3, 201 5, as PANCREATIC CANCER AWARENESS DAY in Georgia.
