BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA A PROCLAMATION SEXUAL ASSAULT AWARENESS MONTH WHEREAS: Sexual assault is a crime and is a major public concern for our nation and state; and WHEREAS: All individuals have a basic right to safety from harm by others. Sexual assault affects people of all ages, races, socioeconomic, educational, religious, and occupational segments of our society; and WHEREAS: The effects of sexual assault are devastating and can have long term effects on victims because it violates their safety, security, and humanity. These effects are also seen in families, communities, schools, and workplaces; and WHEREAS: Georgia communities deserve to be safe and protected from sexual assault. The State of Georgia, in collaboration with local sexual assault centers and communities, supports victims and holds perpetrators accountable in ending sexual assault; now THEREFORE: I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim April 2014 as SEXUAL ASSAULT AWARENESS MONTH in Georgia and encourage all citizens to make this the beginning of the end of sexual violence.
