BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA A PROCLAMATION HISTORIC PRESERVATION MONTH WHEREAS: WHEREAS: WHEREAS: WHEREAS: WHEREAS: THEREFORE: Historic preservation is an effective tool for economic development, tourism promotion, growth management, neighborhood revitalization, fostering local pride, and maintaining overall community character while enhancing livability; and Historic preservation can benefit Americans of all ages, walks of life, and ethnic backgrounds in urban and rural communities across the nation; and It is important to celebrate the role of history in our lives and the contributions made by dedicated individuals in helping to preserve the tangible aspects of the heritage that has shaped us as a people; and "New Age of Preservation: Embark, Inspire, Engage" is the theme for Georgia Historic Preservation Month, co-sponsored by the Historic Preservation Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, the Georgia Trust, and other local preservation and neighborhood organizations throughout Georgia; and Georgia Historic Preservation Month provides an opportunity for citizens to recognize the important role that historic preservation plays in individual lives and communities; now I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim May 2014 as HISTORIC PRESERVATION MONTH in Georgia and call upon all our citizens to recognize and participate in this special observance of our heritage.
