BY THE GOVE RNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA A PROCLAMATION CELEBRATE IRAQ VETERANS AND FAMILIES DAY WHEREAS: WHEREAS: WHEREAS: WHEREAS : THEREFORE : The State of Georgia's military community comprised the highest number of United States military servicemembers to serve during Operation Iraq i Freedom; and From March 20, 2003, to December 18, 2011, Georgia's sons and daughters served with distinction in Iraq within the active, reserve, and National Guard f orces; and Ce lebrate Iraq Veterans and Fami li es Day honors Georgia's servicemembers, veterans, and their families wh ich have sacrificed so much for the freedoms and liberties we enjoy today. We especially honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in order for the Iraqi people to be liberated from tyranny and to share in the ideals of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, just as Georgians have enj oyed since our founding; and All Georg ians, including veterans and t heir fam ily members, are invited to celebrate the return of these veterans and recognize the ir fam ilies at t he invit ation and hosting of t he City of Rome on Saturday, June 16, 20 12. T he Georg ia Department of Veterans Services will also participate in a special veterans' benefits forum on this day; now I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of t he State of Georg ia, do hereby proclaim j une 16, 2012 , as CELEBRATE IRAQ VETERANS AND FAMILIES DAY in Georg ia in honor of our state ' s veterans and thei r families, and f urther call upon all Georgians to celebrate our proud and rich heritage of service to Georgia and ou r country.
