A PROCLAMATION 
UNITED STATES NAVY 
ANNIVERSARY DAY 
The United States Navy was established by the Second Continental Congress on October 13, 1775, and has served our nation with honor and distinction from the American Revolution to World Wars I and II and continuing now into the 2 1st century as our nation responds to threats of terrorism at home and abroad; and 
The Navy has played a vital role in the growth and prosperity of our state, and Georgia has been the proud home to the Navy Supply Corps School in Athens, the Naval Air Station in Marietta and the Navy Submarine Base at Kings Bay; and 
The brave and courageous men and women of the United States Navy enjoy support, admiration and love from their families, friends and fellow citizens as they risk their lives in service to our country and in promoting freedom and protecting democracy around the globe; and 
In commemoration of the 236th ann iversary of the establishment of the Un ites States Navy, the Annual Navy Birthday Charity Ball will be held on October 11, 2008, to recognize the sai lors and Marines who have served our country in the seagoing forces; now 
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim October 22, 2011, as UNITED STATES NAVY ANNIVERSARY DAY in Georgia, and encourage our citizens to observe this tribute to the men and women of the United States Navy and remember with somber hearts those sailors and Marines who sacrificed their lives while defending and protecting our country. 
In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 11 th day of October in the year of our Lord two thousand eleven .
