THE STATE OF GEORGIA EXECUTIVE ORDER BY THE GOVERNOR: FLAGS ON ALL STATE BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS ORDERED LoWERED TO HALF-STAFF WHEREAS: On August 23, 1994, the United States Congress, by Joint Resolution, passed Public Law 103-308 regarding the observance of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day; and WHEREAS: On December 7, 1941, the Imperial Japanese Navy and Air Force attacked units of the armed forces of the United States stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; and WHEREAS: More than 2,000 U.S. citizens were killed and more than 1,000 were wounded in the attack on Pearl Harbor; and WHEREAS: The attack on Pearl Harbor marked the entry of the United States into World War II; and WHEREAS: Commemoration of the attack on Pearl Harbor should instill a greater understanding and appreciation of the selfless sacrifice of the individuals who served in the armed forces ofthe United States during World War II. NOW, THEREFORE, IN HONOR AND COMMEMORATION OF THE ATTACK ON PEARLHARBORANDASAMARKOFRESPECTFORTHEMEMORYOFTHOSEWHO PERISHED, PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME AS GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA, IT IS HEREBY ORDERED: That the flag of the United States and the flag of the State of Georgia be flown at half staff on all state buildings and grounds on National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, Saturday, December 7, 2019, until sunset. This 6th day of December, 2019.
