THE STATE OF GEORGIA 
EXECUTIVE ORDER 
 
BY THE GOVERNOR: 
FLAGS ON ALL STATE BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS ORDERED LOWERED TO HALF-STAFF 
 
WHEREAS: Fifteen years ago our nation was struck by tragedy when thousands of our own were mindlessly lost at the behest of a hateful and heartless ideal; and 
 
WHEREAS: As we continue to move forward in an attempt to mend the wounds suffered on that day, we must recognize that these efforts will never be fulfilled; our nation and the world was forever changed on that September morning; and 
 
WHEREAS: We can never replace those who perished, we will continue to remember and honor their lives and lift up the families and friends of those who were lost; and 
 
WHEREAS: We must continue to remember in our prayers the men and women of our armed forces who are stationed around the world, protecting our country from future terroristic threats; and 
 
WHEREAS: 
 
To honor the memories of those who lost their lives and memorialize this day in our nation's history, the United States Congress on December 18, 2001, passed by joint resolution Public Law 107-89, which designates September 11 of each year as "Patriot Day."

NOW, THEREFORE, PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME AS GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA, IT IS HEREBY 
That the State of Georgia recognize Sunday, September 11, 2016, as Patriot Day by flying the American Flag and the flag of the Great State of Georgia at half-staff on all state buildings and grounds. I also encourage all Georgians to display the American Flag and the flag of the Great State of Georgia at half-staff from their homes and businesses. 
IT IS FURTHER 
That all Georgians are called upon to observe Friday, September 9 through Sunday, September 11, 2016, as National Days of Prayer and Remembrance to honor and remember the victims, their loved ones, and those who continue to protect our freedom.
