THE STATE OF GEORGIA EXECUTIVE ORDER BY THE GOVERNOR: WHEREAS: As a result of the State of Florida being hit by Hurricanes Jeanne, Ivan, Frances and Charley, with subsequent difficulty in its efforts to recover from said catastrophes caused by these storms, dating from September 24, 2004 and in accord with a Proclamation by Governor Jeb Bush on November 23, 2004 extending facilitation of continued relief efforts to expedite the movement of vehicles or vehicles and loads that are transporting damaged timber and, WHEREAS: Georgia wishes to implement a companion policy, authorizing the Georgia Department of Transportation to issue permits to accommodate the movement of vehicles and loads as stated above, with coordination and cooperation from law enforcement of the Department of Motor Vehicle Safety as needed, NOW THEREFORE, PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME AS GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA, IT IS HEREBY ORDERED: That weight, height, length, and width for any such vehicle on roadways maintained by the State of Georgia shall not exceed the following: (A) A maximum gross vehicle weight for vehicles equipped with five (5) weight bearing axles with outer bridge spans of not less than forty (40) feet, but less than fifty-one (51) feet, shall not exceed a gross weight of ninety thousand (90,000) pounds. (B) The maximum gross vehicle weight for vehicles equipped with five (5) axles with outer bridge span of not less than fifty-one (51) feet shall not exceed ninetyfive thousand (95,000) pounds. (C) The maximum gross vehicle weight for vehicles equipped with four (4) weight-bearing axles with outer bridge spans of not less than forty-three (43) feet shall not exceed eighty thousand (80,000) pounds. (D) Maximum dimensions shall not exceed fourteen (14) feet wide, fourteen (14) feet high and one hundred (100) feet long. Travel is limited to daylight hours only beginning thirty (30) minutes after sunrise and ending thirty (30) minutes before sunset. (E) Truck tractor, semi-trailers hauling damaged timber shall be permitted for travel on all state-maintained roadways shown on the permit when issued. (F) Transporters are responsible for ensuring they have proper permits, oversize signs, markings, flags and escorts as defined in the Georgia Department of Transportation Rules and Regulations (GDOT Rule 672-2-.06 and 672-2-.07). Permits may to be issued by the Georgia Department of Transportation, Oversize Permit Unit, during normal business hours from 7 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Monday through Friday by calling 1-800/ 570-5428. This Executive Order shall be valid for thirty (30) days from this date.
