 IMPORTANT GAME REGULATIONS 
Night trout fishing is prohibited. 
Shotguns must be plugged to limit them to a capacity of three (3) shells. 
Guns for hunting deer are limited to .20 gauge shotguns or larger, loaded with slugs or No. 1 buckshot or larger, or to rifles using any center fire cartridge .222 caliber or above with the following exceptions: .25-.20; .32-.20; .30 Army Carbine; .22 Hornet; or .218 Bee. 
Bows for the purpose of taking deer and turkey are legal during the regular hunting season and must have a minimum recognized pull of 40 pounds. Bows must be unstrung when transported or possessed in or upon motor vehicles. 
It is unlawful to take bear or deer in lakes, streams, or ponds. 
It is unlawful to set fire to grass, trees, or marsh lands for the purpose of driving out game, or to take or attempt to take game so driven out. 
Any persons causing or being involved in a hunting accident in which a human being is killed or injured by means of a firearm or bow and arrow must identify himself, give what assistance he can, and report accident to the nearest law enforcement officer. 
Regulations on migratory game such as dove, ducks, geese, brant, rail and coot are the same as federal regulations. 
 
 WI LOLl FE CO NSERVATION 
ALL HUNTERS SHOULD KNOW 
Hunting hours, as establi shed by Georgia law, begin at local sunrise and end at sundown. Night hunting is permitted for raccoon, opossum and fox. The dates of the seasons listed in this book begin with sunrise and e nd at sundown on dates specified. 
Georgia law requires that each deer and wild turkey killed in the state must be reported in writing to the State Game and Fish Commission within five days. 
Each deer killed must be tagged within ten minutes after possession of the animal. The deer must remain tagged at all times until it has been processed for consumption. Deer tags are attached to your hunting license. Tags are furnished by the Game and Fish Co mmission, and deer tags, when issued, are not transferable and cannot be reused. 
Shotguns must be plugged to limit them to a capacity of three shells when hunting native game birds, as well as animals and migratory birds. 
to hunt in Georgia while under the influence of any intoxicating beverages. 
to kill or possess the meat of any female deer, except in counties where the takin g of doe is legal.

 LAWS AND REGULATIONS 
ALL FISHERMEN SHOULD KNOW 
All fresh water streams, lakes and ponds of Georgia are open to legal fishing throughout the year with the exception of trout streams outside the management area in the following counties: Dawson, Fannin, Gilmer, Habersham, Lumpkin, Murray, Pickens, Towns, Unwn, White and Rabun, and the waters of the Chattahoochee River from Buford Dam southwest to the Roswell Bridge on Highway #19 between Sandy Springs and Roswell, including all backwaters thereto in streams between these points, regardless of water level. 
Trout streams are open for fishing from April 1 to September 15, 1963. 
The main channel of the Chattooga River in Rabun County is open year around. 
Night fishing is prohibited in trout streams outside management areas from 30 minutes after sundown until 30 minutes before sunup.

No person may possess at any time more than 50 fish in the aggregate of all species named except channel catfish and no more than 15 large or smallmouth bass, 30 white and yellow bass or 8 trout of any or all species in the aggregate. 
Managed trout streams shall be open from May 2 through Labor Day on specified days. A permit costing $1.00 and a valid Georgia Fishing License is required before fishing. All fishermen in public fishing areas must cease fishing before sundown. 
There is no closed season on taking shad fish with rod and reel, fly rod, or pole and line. The daily creel limit shall be R fish. This covers all species of shad fish, including what is commonly known as white shad and hickory shad. 
Private pond: The owner, his family or tenants, with the owner's consent, may fish in a private pond without a license. All others are required to have a license. 
FISH SANCTUARIES AND NURSERY PONDS 
The State Game and Fish Commission has established sanctuaries and nursery ponds for the propagation of game fish. No person may fish or commit any other act harmful or detrimental to the intended purpose.

High Falls Lake will be open to legal fishing throughout the year. 
Restrictions and limitations for High Falls Lake a nd Raceway a re as fo llows: 
Not more than two poles, spinners or other fi shin g apparatus will be allowed per person. Mo tors for boats s hall not exceed 6 H.P Boat s used shall not exceed 16 feet maxim um lengt h and 10 feet minimum length or 3 feet minimum width and must be in good condition. All ca mper s must regi ster with the caretaker prior to makin g camp a nd use the area designated. Camp sites will not be utilized over one week co nsecutively without specific permission of the Georgia Game and Fish Commission. No bottles, cans, pa per or rubbish shall be thrown in lake or on the g round s. This will be disposed of in containers provided. 
PROHIBITED: Unattended fi shin g equipm en t . Trot lines, baskets, nets or co mmercia l fi shin g gea r . Water ski ing; swim ming in Lake; loiterin g on the dam.

BOAT REGIST-RATION 
All boats employin g mot or s in excess of 10-horsepower must be r egist er ed with th e Sta te Game and Fis h Commission . The fo llowing boats a r e exempt fro m r egistra tion : boat s a lre ady covered by a number in full force, awa rded by a Federa l agency or another stat e, provided that such boat has not been in Georgia wat er s f or a peri od in excess of ninety (90) days ; a mo t orboat f r om a nother co untry, temporarily using the wa t er s of Geor g ia; a motorbo a t owned by the U nited St a t es, a st a t e of th e United Sta t es or a subdi vision ther eof a nd a ship's lifeboa t . 
Boats must be properly marked and a decal placed on t he spray shield thereof or the registration certificate be available on the boat for inspection prior to the operation of t he boat on the waters of this State.

 TRANSFER OR SALE OF BOATS 
If an owner sells or transfers his share of a registered boat, he must notify the Georgia Game and Fish Commission within 15 days. The new owner must apply to the Commission within 15 days for a tra nsfer certific a t e of number. The new owner will keep the number but must obtain a new certificate. Transfer fee $1.00. 
 
BOAT LIVERIES 
Owners of livery boats, i.e., a boat owned for the purpose of renting to another, may register each boat at a fe e of $1.25 per boat for the first twenty (20) . All boats in excess of twenty (20) may be registered at a fee of 50 cents per boat. Each certificate of number issued as a livery boat must be plainly marked "Livery Boat." 
 
NUMBERING OF BOATS 
 
Boat owners who receive a number under the Georgia Motorboat Numbering Act must paint of firmly attach t he number awarded on each side of the bow of the boat in a position that will assure easy identification. The numbers, not less than three (3) inches in height nor more than one (1) inch apart, shall read from left to right. All numbers must contrast with the background color of the boat. No other numbers may be displayed on either side of the bow.

 BOAT DEALERS 
Persons engaged in the manufacture or sale of boats that require registration may obtain certificates of number for use in testing or demonstration . These numbers may be transferred to other boats of the same class range. Dealers making application for such numbers must do so on regular applications, accompanied by an affidavit attesting that applicant .is a boat dealer or manufacturer. Numbers awarded under this provision may be used temporarily on boats within the ce rtific ate's class range. Each boat, however, must be plainly marked "Boat Dealer."

REPORTING OF ACCIDENTS 
Each boat owner who holds a certificate of number is responsible for reporting boating accidents in accordance with the following procedure : 
A written report is required whenever any one or more of the following occurs on board, or involving any motorboat: 
The death of any person from whatever cause; the disappear ance of any person from on board under circumstances which suggest any possibility of their death or injury; the injury of any person sufficient to cause their incapacitation for 72 hours or longer; the loss or damage to property of any kind (including the motorboat) in an amount of $100.00 or more. 
Whenever death or injury has (or may) result from a boating accident, a written report shall be submitted to the State Game and Fish Commission within 48 hours. For every other reportable boating accident, a written report shall be submitted within five (5) days.

 (b) When boats are approaching head-on or nearly so, it shall be the duty of each to turn to the right and pass on the port, or left, side of the other. 
(c) A boat overtaking any other boat shall keep out of the way of the overtaken boat, passing to the left of it if that side is in the clear. 
(d) Power boats when moving under power shall keep clear of row boats with occupants, approaching not nearer than fifty (50) feet. 
(e) Persons navigating in narrow channels shall keep to the right of the middle of the channel. 
(f) When a larger craft a,pproaches or passes a smaller craft, the former shall reduce speed so that its wake will not endanger the smaller craft. 
(g) Power boats operating at night snail be equipped with lights sufficient to throw light in the direction of travel for a distance of not less than one hundred-fifty (150) feet. 
(h) Boats shall be equipped with one Coast Guard approved life preserving apparatus for each passenger aboard. 
(i) No person shall operate any watercraft on any of the waters in this State while under the influence of intoxicating beverages, drugs, or narcotics. 
SAFETY REGULATIONS 
No person shall operate any watercraft or manipulate any water skis, aqua-plane, or similar device in a reckless or negiligent manner so as to danger the life, limb or property of any person. 
Any person violating any of the foregoing rules and regulations shall, upon conviction thereof, be punished as for a misdemeanor. 
No person shall operate any watercraft on any of the waters of this State during hours of darkness unless showing a lig-ht sufficient to make the watercraft's presence and location known to any and all other craft within a reasonable distance.

 When watercraft approach each other obliquely or at right angles, the watercraft approaching on the right side shall have the right-of-way, and the other craft must stay clear. 
Watercraft passing close to swimming areas, d o c k s, floating b o a t houses, moored boats, or boats engaged in fishing or similar activities, must adjust their speed so as to prevent their wash or wake from caus- . ing damage or unnecessary inconvenience to occupants of the area of 
other craft. No watercraft shall be loaded with passengers or cargo beyond its safe carrying capacity taking into consideration weather and other operating conditions. No person shall operate a motorboat on any of the waters of this State towing a person on water skis, an aquaplane, or similar device, nor shall any person engage in water skiing, aqua-planing, or similar activity unless such person being towed is wearing a life preserver. Provided that this r egulation shall not apply to organized water ski tournaments, competitions, expositions, or trials therefor. Nor shall any person engage in the above or similar activity at any time between the hours from one hour after sunset to one hour before sunrise. The operators of a ll motorboats and the operator of any watercraft on the public lakes and the navigable streams shall have aboard one life preserver, buoyant vest, ring buoy or buoyant cushion, of the type approved by the U. S. Coast Guard, in good and serviceable condition for each person on board. As used in these rules and regulations, the term "watercraft" shall be defined as any contrivance, other than a seaplane on the water, used or capable of being used as a means of transportation on water.

shall not be liable, however, unless such watercraft is b oin P.' used with hi s or her ex press or implied consent. It shall be presum ed that such watercraft is being operated with the knowledge and consent of the owner if. at the time of the injury or damage, it is under the

 MANAGED HUNT REGULATIONS 
All hunters must have applicable license in addition to permits. After killing a deer hunters must immediately stop hunting and if they stay in camp guns must be checked in at the checking station. 
Hunters mus t wear yellow or r ed caps, ha ts or coat s on hunting areas at all tim es . 
All Big Game hunting will be still hunts. No dogs allowed. Shooting within 200 yards of buildings, main roads, and pastures or fields containing livestock is prohibited. Carrying loaded firearms or shooting from automobiles is prohibited. 
No camping allowed in Game Food Planting Areas. 
Target practice is prohibited on hunt areas. 
Children under 15 years of age will not be allowed on managed areas. Those between the age of 15 and 16 must be accompanied by an adult. 
All Management Area gates except at checking station will be kept closed. Each hunter killing a deer must report kill on same day to checking station attendant. Hunters who have killed a deer during open season will not be allowed to participate in managed deer hunts. Persons under the influence of intoxicating liquors will be barred from hunting. 
No person shall be eligible to receive a permit who has been convicted of game law violations within three years prior to hunt. Vehicles are subjected to be searched for illegal game. Hunters violating any game laws, rules or regulations shall be expelled immediately from the management areas.
