JUNE 2008 NEWSLETTER | Send to a Friend View All AUTO SUPPLIER GROUNDBREAKINGS In May Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue helped two major automotive suppliers break ground. Kia supplier Sewon America broke ground on its LaGrange facility, set to employ 700, in early May. Later in the month, Kumho Tire broke ground in Macon, where the company expects to create 450 jobs. Top-tier Kia supplier Johnson Controls will locate a new facility in Harris County, creating 310 jobs. The Milwaukee-based company will manufacture complete seating systems and door panels for Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia. N.E.W. Customer Service plans to create up to 240 jobs in two years with a new work-at-home program in the Albany area. Prospective employees will train to be customer service representatives at Albany Technical College. Tifton Extrusions, an offshoot of Ohio-based BRT Extrusions, announced plans to open a new facility in Tifton. The venture will create up to 146 jobs and represents a $6 million investment. Chile IT Business Mission August 18 August 20 View All Governor Perdue signed a bill increasing incentives offered to entertainment industry productions, including films, TV programs, music videos, commercials and videogames. The legislation puts Georgia in the top five states in the U.S. for competitiveness of its entertainment industry incentives. Recently the fourth class of the Governor's Mentor-Protg program graduated from the 18month program, which pairs large, successful companies with emerging Georgia businesses. Twenty-two mentor companies teamed with 26 protg companies to share ideas and strategies for growth. Georgia company Label Vision Systems won a prestigious Exporter of the Year award from ThinkGlobal Inc., publishers of the official export promotion magazine of the U.S. Department of Commerce. The Peachtree City company has been a client of the International Trade division at GDEcD for two years. GDEcD will receive a delegation from Chile from the telecommunications, IT and security industries. There will be a seminar and opportunities for one-on-one meetings.
