Planning & Codes Memorandum TO: Interested Persons FROM: Tony M. McClung DATE: June 10, 1999 SUBJECT: County Jail Inmate Information Report Enclosed is the County Jail Inmate Information Report for June 1999. This report reflects the inmate population on Thursday, June 3, 1999. This month, 147 of the 147 functional county jails provided inmate information. This represents 100 percent of the county jails reporting and 100 percent of the State's population. Please note that this represents no change from last month in the percentage of the counties reporting nor in the percentage of the State's population represented. It should be noted that the number of inmates housed in county jails (26,473) dropped for the forth consecutive month and is at the lowest level since January 1998. The county jail population has decreased six out of the last seven months. Meanwhile, the net capacity of county jails increased by 89 beds as a result of some additions in DeKalb County and reductions in Dawson County. The number of inmates sentenced to state institutions (2,730) dropped to the lowest level since March 1997.
