News and topics of interest to financial institutions regulated by the Department of Banking and Finance Inside this issue: March 2019 FFIEC Announces New Appointments to State Liaison Committee Action on Applications 2 for the Month Senior Deputy Commissioner Steve Pleger was designated by the Na- tional Association of State Credit Union Supervisors (NASCUS) to serve on the State Liaison Committee. Pleger was appointed to the position of Department Outreach 3 and Upcoming Speaking Senior Deputy Commissioner for the Georgia Department on May 1, 2010. Engagements Within goals and priorities established by the Commissioner of the De- partment, his areas of responsibility include general administration and oversight of the Department; development of policies and regulations; oversight of information technology, security, and project management; and liaison to government agencies (state and federal) as well as various trade groups. Prior to his appointment at the Department, Pleger had responsibility for directing examination programs for large and unique financial institutions and has examination experience that covers holding companies, banks, credit unions, non-depository trust companies, agencies, and third-party service providers. Pleger has five years of industry experience working in community banking. Pleger currently serves on the NASCUS board and had previously served as Chairman. BSA/AML/OFAC updates in less than 39 minutes In December 2018, the FDIC announced the release of an updated technical assistance video on the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), anti-money laundering (AML) requirements, and the Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctions programs. The updated video provides an overview of current BSA/AML and OFAC requirements for directors of FDIC-supervised banks. The video was designed to assist directors in understanding their compliance responsibilities, provide an update on changes in the federal laws and regulations, and give a high-level overview of the examination process for beneficial ownership and CDD requirements all in less than 39 minutes.
