DISTRICT COMMENTS February 22, 2004 DISTRICT 1 - NORTHWEST Seeing signs of lice on beef cattle. DISTRICT 2 - NORTH CENTRAL Routine care of livestock and poultry. DISTRICT 3 - NORTHEAST Warming days could set fruit producers up for a disappointing spring when/if late frosts hit later in the season. DISTRICT 4 - WEST CENTRAL Some drying last week. Liming and fertilizing pastures. Routine care of livestock and poultry. DISTRICT 5 - CENTRAL Rain early in the week welcome for small grains and winter grazing. Wet conditions halting top dressing on small grains and winter grazing and also soil preparation for spring planting. Mud continues to really be a problem around livestock operations. Warmer daytime temperatures late in the week. The colder temperatures have made it tough on insects. Hopefully, this will result in fewer problems when temperatures warm up. Wet soil conditions limited field work this week. Some farmers were able to apply fungicides, fertilizers, etc., in some fields. DISTRICT 6 - EAST CENTRAL Wind has dried topsoil out. Still wet under top. DISTRICT 7 - SOUTHWEST We received 1.04" of rainfall. Has been wet and cold. Soil sampling is proceeding. DISTRICT 8 - SOUTH CENTRAL Rainy and wet. Most field work has been halted due to wet soils. Preparing land for watermelon planting. Two to four inches of rain has stopped field work. Fertilizing pecan orchards. Liming fields that need pH adjustments. DISTRICT 9 - SOUTHEAST No comments available. Contact Information David S.
