Georgia Crop Weather Week Ending Date December 5, 2004 MILD WEATHER Weather conditions across the State were mostly mild with isolated showers, according the Georgia Agricultural Statistics Service. Producers were able to complete a large amount of fieldwork activities. Recent rainfall has replenished soil moisture levels throughout the State. Soil moisture levels were rated 2 percent short, 74 percent adequate, and 24 percent surplus. Scattered fields of cotton, pecan, and soybean remain for harvest, especially in the southern areas of the State. Ample amount of rains, wet soils, and poor drying conditions have contributed to the slow harvest. Wheat condition was rated in mostly good to fair. Some producers were active feeding hay. Pasture condition was rated in mostly good to fair. County Extension Agents reported an average of 4.6 days suitable for fieldwork. Vegetables condition were rated in mostly good to fair. Other activities included mowing and cultivating cotton stalks, fertilizing small grains for grazing, and the routine care of livestock and poultry.
