Forty-five Georgia farmers donated a total of 250 of the trees with the remainder supplied by other states. Also during Christmas 2005, a unit of tbe Georgia National Guard deployed in Iraq requested trees for a party that was held for families of the soldiers. One of the Georgia farms supplied trees to the Guard for this purpose. and another farm near Fort Stewart allowed families to tag trees that were held until January when the unit was returning for a late Christmas celebration. This year trees will be provided to more bases in the U.S: and overseas than were provided in 2005, with approximately 11 .000 trees commjned by growers in 27 states. The Georgia Christmas Tree Associacion is again participating in this effort, and Georgia farmers have committed co donate 300 rrees for Christmas 2006. In Georgia, Fort Benning.
