Irvin met with CBP field operations personnel al Hartsfield-Jackson International Airpon . as well as officials rrom the U.S. Department of Agriculture. to learn more about CBP's procedures penaining to imponation of animals and animal products. and operational plans for add.re ing Lhe po~ible introduction of the HSN I avian influenza viru . The Commi ioner also toured the Federal Inspection Station, located in the airpon's international concourse. to witne.<>s first hand the in!>pection of pnsscngers and cargo entering the United St.ates. Although CBP also is re ponsible fo1 inspections at Georgia 's seapons, the airpon was chosen for the meeting and tour due 10 the large number of flights entering the U.S .. transporting both passenger.. and cargo.
